Bible Quote of the Week:
"God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God,
and God abides in him."-- 1 John 4:16

 Catholic Adult Fellowship

THIS TUESDAY:
June 27: "Deus Caritas Est Study", Part 2
This Tuesday, we will pick up our study and discussion of "Deus Caritas Est (God is Love)" on Section 9. In order for us to cover as much of the encyclical as possible and also to enrich our conversation, the study will be planned around each of us reading the sections to be discussed ahead of time, so that we can come together with insights and questions to share. But if you haven't been able to read it, please still come!

-- For our June 27 discussion, please read: (Sections 9-18)
From The newness of Biblical faith through the end of Part 1.

Getting a copy:
-- To read it online, or to download a PDF version, go here:

-- If you would like to purchase a copy in booklet form, contact
Barbara Zajac at 238-0838.

Katie will be leading Parts 1 and 3, and Cat will lead Parts 2 and 4, but
your insights and discussion will be the most important elements of
the programs.

6/25/06 Note from the director:
Thanks for letting me ramble to you each week in this section of the weekly e-mail. I hope it is interesting and encouraging and not totally lame.

Updates on people:

Congratulations to Paul and Sara on their engagement! The wedding is set for next May. We will keep their journey in our prayers.

We are sad to hear that Anne Marie and Ted (and Colin!) Bodensteiner will be moving from Terre Haute in a few weeks, but are so glad that the Lord has answered their prayers about where they should be (close to family, Anne Marie at home with Colin, and Ted pursuing a different profession). We will plan on having some kind of farewell get-together for them. More details to come.

Some of you may remember Dean DeBoer. He is living in Evansville, is a manager of a Blockbuster and will be getting married in August to his girlfriend, Laura. Rich will be the best man. Dean misses us and appreciates our prayers. If you would like to call him, he is at: (812) 774-8378.

Jonna and Dave Dunst are doing well up in Michigan. Jonna has been a trooper throughout her pregnancy, and she said she is definitely "showing" now. Dave is continuing to set the world on fire for Christ with his praise and worship band and music ministry at their church. Please keep them and their pregnancy in your prayers.

Melanie Smith-Henderson and her husband Steven had their marriage blessed and their son, Kelly, baptized last Sunday. I am very proud of my God-daughter and how she is letting God lead her in life.

If you are a former CAF-er, or have info on one, that you would like me to share in the weekly e-mail, send it my way!

Don't forget to read D
eus Caritas Est, Sections 9-18, for Tuesday! Even if you haven't had a chance to read it, please come!

RECAP: June 20: "Deus Caritas Est Study", Part 1
This past Tuesday, we took a look at Sections 1-8 in Pope Benedict's first encyclical, "Deus Caritas Est (God is Love)." We talked about eros love, which the Pope explains as "that love between man and woman that is neither planned nor willed but somehow imposes itself upon human beings," and agape love, which the Pope says is a, "concern and care for the other. No longer is it self-seeking; instead it seeks the good of the beloved... it is ready for sacrifice."
Eros is meant to draw us into agape love. As humans, we need both forms of love united to fully live out the call to love that was stamped into our being, physically and spiritually.
We shared some of our personal experiences of "eros" love from God, where His love was felt physically, as well as spiritually. A great example of a saint who experienced this kind of "ecstasy" is St. Teresa of Avila.
Thanks so much to all those who shared!

RECAP: June 24: Indians Game
About 15 CAF-ers, from all three chapters, attended an Indians vs. Richmond Braves game Saturday evening in Indy.
It was a great game, very close the entire game.  Indy was one out away from winning in the 9th when the Richmond Braves scored to tie the game.  When Indy failed to score in the bottom of the ninth, some of us left to go out for food.
The game ended up going 12 innings as Indy scored in the bottom of the 12th inning and won the game.  YEAH!!!  I wonder if anyone from our groups was still there to see it.
-- Rich Bernier

Tuesday, July 4: Celebration at Colleen's
See entry in Programs above.

Saturday, July 29: Turkey Run canoeing/hiking
All CAF chapters plan on meeting up at Turkey Run (similar to what we did for our spring retreat!) and experience nature at its finest.
Last year, we didn't get there until about noon and there were no canoes left, so we will be heading out earlier this year, to get there by 10 at the latest.
Groups can split up if there are some who want to canoe and others who want to hike.
An idea to accommodate lunch is to bring one of those soft thermal zipper coolers that can fit a few sandwiches and two bottles of water. This will be easy to tote while hiking or in the canoe.

If you would like to go, please RSVP to Paul Meneghini, fellowship coordinator:
kissfan200@aol.com or 765-828-1034

OPPORTUNITY: Monday, July 31: King's Island
Rich is coordinating a trip to King's Island on Monday July 31st.
Currently going are: Rich, Fr. Paul, Cat, and maybe Nick.
We will leave in the morning, probably around 8 AM. It is a 3-hour drive.
The cost is $49.99, but if you buy your ticket online 3 days in advance (that Friday before) it will only cost you $34.99. That is $15 off. WHAT A BARGAIN!!!

If you would like to go, please RSVP to Rich Bernier,:

Saturday, August 12: Indianapolis State Fair
The Indy chapter would like to invite us to join them at the State Fair!
If you have never gone, it is quite an experience where you can get just about any gastronomical delight you can imagine, see the world's fattest hog and go on a ferris wheel.
RSVP details to come.
